Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training, established and managed by Vinyasa Arts owners/founders Andy and Tamara Totman E-RYT 500. Vinyasa Arts is a Registered yoga school certified by Yoga Alliance (200, 300, 500 RYS) Please be aware that the Vinyasa Arts Teacher Training program includes vigorous asana practice with each daytime session. We strongly recommend that applicants have at least one year of consistent yoga practice before participating.
Vinyasa Arts Yoga Teacher Training encourages trainees to cultivate their full human potential; to find their niche in the yoga world, and learn safe and effective adjustment, alignment and teaching techniques. As a trainee at Vinyasa Arts, you will be equipped with the knowledge and confidence to teach your own Vinyasa flow classes. You will develop a strong personal yoga practice, while becoming proficient at the skills to be a talented yoga instructor. You will have sufficient opportunities to lead your own Vinyasa flow class to your fellow trainees. In addition, this teacher training will include meditation, pranayama, history and philosophy; as well as, ethics of a yoga teacher, and muscular and subtle energy anatomy.

Techniques, Training And Practice (Asana, Pranayama And Meditation): 100 Hours
We will be practicing asanas as well as going over the guidelines for a daily practice. With the Vinyasa Arts principles of proper alignment, we will explore the asanas with and through the steadiness and ease of the breath, continuously joining the breath with the body-mind-spirit connection. Guiding students through basic yogic breathing (Ujjayi Pranayama); as well as more refined breathing techniques. We will focus on the discovery and development of Pranayama by reflecting on the techniques of the ancient yogis. We will discuss the importance of sthira, sukham, asanam, deepening your yogic practice. We will explore meditation as a form of yoga and the path towards self-discovery, healing and transformation. Opening the windows to the mind and to a deeper connection to the entire universe. Learning to have a clear mind and a balanced sense of self.
Teaching Methodology (teaching, Modifications, Relationships, Business Of Yoga): 29 Hours
Teaching techniques that are applicable to Vinyasa Yoga. Helping student yoga teachers open their awareness to the most authentic way they can teach Vinyasa Yoga to others. We will cover several areas; categorizing standing and seated poses; principles of sequencing these poses; and creating safe and fun sequences (teaching scripts, sequences for various levels, practical teaching, etc.). We will also cover “introducing the pose” (translation, example and benefits); teaching from the foundation up; Addressing risk factors; explaining why we hold a pose a certain way; providing options, modifications and alternative postures; instructing how to move into and out of a pose (transitions, etc.); using precise directional language, Sanskrit names of Asanas, etc; and teacher / student relationships; and the business of yoga.
Anatomy And Physiology (structure And Movement/subtle Energy): 20 Hours
Having knowledge of anatomy will help with understanding your student’s boundaries and limitations. We will discuss the most common injuries in yoga and how they may have accrued. Using “live models” to show body movements and structure in the asanas. This section will include the language of anatomy; the nervous system and anatomy and physiology of breathing and. We will also have lecture and discussion on anatomy of the subtle body (Three Bodies and the Five Sheaths; Prana (five major types), Nadis, Bandhas, Chakras/Chakra charts, Gunas, and Doshas)
Yoga Philosophy, Lifestyle And Ethics (history, Lifestyle, Ethics): 30 Hours
In this section we will look at the foundational literature of yoga to identify the traditional practices, considering the relevance and practical application of these practices in doing and teaching yoga. Topics will include “Yoga as Self Transformation” by Joel Kramer, The Heart of Yoga (several chapters throughout the training); Light on Yoga (BKS Iyengar);and The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, History of Yoga;
Practicum: 35 HOURS
Practicing teaching, receiving feedback, observing others teaching and hearing and giving feedback. It also includes assisting students while someone else is teaching. We will also conduct a “Final Practicum”
